It gives the Karima al-Marwaziyya Foundation great pleasure to be involved in the publication of the following contribution to the growing corpus of classical Islamic literature, the details of which are as follows:

About the Book
Authored by the renowned 11th Century Ḥanafī scholar, Ibrāhīm bin Ḥasan al-Mullā, The Beginner's Gift is a concise primer on Islamic Law covering the elementary legal issues relating to purification and prayer.  To supplement the text, the translator has added commentary based on the extensive explanatory notes of Shaykh Yaḥyā bin Muḥammad al-Mullā, a descendant of the author, editor and publisher of this text in Arabic. Also included are appendices related to supplications, background information on the area of al-Aḥsā’, history of the Ḥanafī school in al-Aḥsā’, the al-Mullā family, and an unpublished treatise on the Ḥanafī school by a recent eminent scholar of the al-Mullā family.

He was a jurist and grammarian, well grounded in a number of sciences. He studied in his city with a number of scholars and studied in Makkah with its jurist ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Murshidī who wrote for him a detailed license indicating in it to his expertise in the Islamic sciences.”

The Commentator
Shaykh Yaḥyā bin Muḥammad al-Mullā is a Saudi born contemporary scholar of Ḥanafī fiqh who memorized the Quran and studied with his father along with other scholars in his native al-Aḥsā’.
